12 Billion Dollar Construction Project in Mid-East

The Mile High Tower, recently renamed Kingdom Tower, is under construction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. When completed, it will be the tallest building on the planet, almost twice as high as the Burj Khafia (Formerly the Burj Dubai) and will boast an impressive 12 billion cubic feet of interior space. The building will include residential suites, businesses, shopping centers, and many attractions not found anywhere else. Additionally, the Mile High Tower will be at the center of a complex of buildings designed to house the 80 thousand people who work there full time, and the million annual visitors that are expected to come and see this architectural wonder..

The Kingdom Tower itself is being built and financed by the Saudi Royal Family and investors, who hope to make the city of Jeddah a showplace for the world while boosting the economic fortunes of their own citizens, who will be involved in the planning and construction of the millions of pieces of material and lumber that go into building such a monument. However, the economic impact of this design will be global, since it will also be using British Architects, glass from China, steel from the US and Europe, and materials from every continent except Antarctica.

Notes and Special Information

Special note: Because this project is in process, and such buildings can take many years to complete, a mile high skyscraper project in Shanghai may overtake this one.
